Troop 17 Committee Minutes: 12/5/05

Attending

Jerry Wallace, Patrick Bettenburg, Mike Smith, John Orrison, Jim Polakowski, Mark Hansen, Robb Lageson, & Doug Dotts

Troop Leadership

At least five (is it 5?) members have received Troop Committee training. This training helped to define roles, organize, and provide guidance to the troop.

Pat sees our role as committee members to coordinate and support the Scoutmaster.

Doug agreed to take role of secretary and combine with communication. Doug will talk to Ray at future date about posting information on website.

Pat suggested that the Committee Chair position be up for an election/vote in Jan. or Feb.

Pat would like to see the troop follow the BSA training book closer when it comes to patrols. Mike stated that these were guidelines. Mark said that patrols were to take turns leading the program during the troop meetings; this is to start in Jan. Ongoing – the committee will examine patrols, program, & leadership and decide a course.

Reports to Committee

Committee members should provide mini reports during meetings. No need for treasurer report each month, but an update is needed.

Jim reports that the troop has a CD with $2,700 value. Our checking balance is $5,800. This does not include wreath sales and camp credits. Wreath sales estimated to be about the same as last year. Jim will provide more financial details at next committee meeting. Mark will provide the hours that Scouts worked on wreaths to Jim.

Business

Jerry would like the Troop use the credits/dollars of those Scouts have aged out (over 18). And he would like the credits/dollars of Scouts who have become inactive, but not over 18, be retained for them in case they return to Scouting.

Jerry will bring health forms to future meeting for updates. Mike will start rechartering work. Pat & Doug will cross check registration. (Pat – do I have this right?)

Committee agendas and mini reports will be posted on Website

Request that Quartermaster(s) assess/inventory equipment & list requests during winter break & report back during Jan 2nd meeting with Scoutmaster. Jerry reports that REI will have a sale of rental equipment soon and that they will provide us with an equipment list. Committee agreed that equipment could be purchased prior completion of the Quartermaster’s review if it was determined that equipment was needed and that the price was right.

To celebrate 90th Anniversary of the Troop & Support of UCC as Charter Organization:

Committee agreed to post scholarship policy statement on website. Committee agreed to have a reimbursement policy statement for activity/outing drivers and make them aware of tax deduction option. Jim said he would write the statements and provide them to Ray for posting on the website.
